You will be responsible for the delivery and engineering of multi utility services. Overseeing and managing works from contract award to design, commencement of build and providing ongoing engineering and technical advice to our building services and construction colleagues.
Review and understanding of materials, energy use, environmental controls, legislative, commercial and policy changes is key to Connect it’s viability and success and the Technical Manager will help educate and implement process and support for industry change and development.

Job location: Head office in Hedge End, Southampton and regional hubs in Bristol and Ashford
The role will be responsible for:
- Manage the operation of multi utility and sustainable energy works, driving projects from concept to completion.
- Advise and engineer building services solutions.
- As a strong communicator, be the primary point of contact for our clients to advise on ideas, requirements, specifications and understand how Connect it will best support them.
- Hold regular client meetings to ensure that communication is maintained and progress is driven to maintain Connect it’s reputation.
- Being a first point of contact for our building services colleagues, you will be a gateway to providing technical guidance and information to ensure that our operation continues.
- Mentor our other engineers to ensure that designs are produced timely and as required to meet our clients’ specifications.
- Effective and efficient hand over of completed works to enable autonomous delivery.
- Engage with Engineering, Utility and Engineering Companies and stakeholders to determine multi utility connections, engineering difficulties and other collaborative activities.
- Determine and ensure processes are being followed and documentation is satisfactorily completed, ensuring best practice is incorporated within Connect it’s procedures.
- Review and undertake required legal processes, including incorporated rights processes to enable confident conversations with our clients to drive forward legal completions.
- Provide support and advice to the estimating and design team for complex engineering schemes such as pipework design (fluid mechanics).
- Support procurement teams with the specification of materials, not limited to pipework, cabling and other plant.
- Take ownership of site and design changes by communicating with commercial colleagues around the increase in costs or change of scope.
- You will have a strong understanding of NERs, WIRs and GIRs and the limits that we work to within and support the business with policy changes and scope extensions.
- Support the Connect it Safety Management System and its subsequent delivery to ensure compliance with regulatory, industry and network standards that deliver safe outcomes.
- Accurately identify business risks to ensure that procedures, systems and designs can be delivered safely and to specification.
- Identify areas of growth or weaknesses and introduce processes to support these areas.
- Ensure technical updates and manuals are maintained and updated within relevant business systems.
- Provide Technical and Engineering support to our Commercial and Business Development team when responding to tenders and other business opportunities, giving confident advice, services guidance and effective solutions.
- Support KPI reporting by sharing knowledge.
- Support the business in transition to ISO standards.
- Create system processes, flows to drive automation and efficiency within existing Connect it systems.
- Support both internal and external audits, ensuring compliance.
- Maintain own industry knowledge, awareness, and continue to develop professionally.
- Support the business in its growth, taking on new responsibilities and duties.
- Support the growth and development of our colleagues and teams.
- Pursue professional registration to IEng or CEng with a relevant professional body.
Qualifications and experience:
- BEng or MEng related degree or relevant engineering experience in a similar role.
- 5 years industry experience.
- Be familiar with CDM requirements.
- A strong communicator, who possesses good organisational and written communication skills, with the ability to interface with people at all levels.
- AutoCAD use for viewing and reviewing drawings.
- Modelling of network design experience.
- Experience with regulatory change and of implementation.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Professional Registration at IEng or CEng level (preferred).
